people are enslaved today.
Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world, generating more than $150 billion USD every year.
Although human trafficking is a phenomenon that impacts every region of the world, Southeast Asia is well-recognized as an international hub. High rates of poverty, combined with a lack of job opportunities, education, and infrastructure, influence many individuals to seek employment opportunities abroad through illegal migration and third-party brokers. Traffickers prey on these vulnerable people groups and, upon arrival, they are unexpectedly forced into slavery. This is why we focus our prevention efforts in Cambodia and Myanmar. By preventing human trafficking in these spots, we can disrupt the entire industry and protect many children and adults from ever experiencing modern slavery.
We equip individuals and communities to stand strong against trafficking. By addressing the root issues of human trafficking through a holistic approach, we provide a system of support to protect families and communities.
The THRIVE model of Freedom's Promise has been continuously developed and refined since our foundation in 2007. We follow best-practice standards by equipping local leaders to improve their own communities. In healthy communities, trafficking is prevented and people groups are thriving.
We equip individuals to protect their families and communities by providing training to recognize and address vulnerabilities and identify tactics used by traffickers.
We build strong communities by providing basic medical care, educating individuals on nutrition and disease prevention, and mobilizing community health leaders.
RESTORATION THROUGH CHRIST
We train local leaders and pastors to instill self-worth through discipleship based in the love of Jesus Christ.
We provide dignified employment opportunities for individuals to earn a fair wage in a safe environment.
We educate at risk individuals with the skills training needed to secure reliable jobs and provide for their families.
We invest in the next generation of children and young adults by providing safe play spaces, and quality learning environments.
In the last 15 years we have seen...
participate in trafficking awareness workshops
lives to Christ
receive quality healthcare through 68 medical clinics
a month educated on trafficking awareness in 25 of 25 Cambodian provinces
As a young teenager, she often migrated across the border into Thailand in search of work. A lack of employment opportunities often leads to increased vulnerability to human trafficking—especially for those who migrate to find employment. Freedom’s Promise first met Srey during this time, and eventually learned about her migration while she was serving as a volunteer in our learning center. Our staff receives training about the signs of human trafficking vulnerabilities, and as a result, they were able to encourage Srey to stop migrating and begin working part-time as a teacher. Additionally, Freedom’s Promise provided Srey’s family with rice to ensure their needs were being physically met.
Srey went on to graduate high school, enroll in University and attend on the weekends. In December of 2022, Srey graduated with her Bachelor’s in English Literature. She is now a key leader and full-time teacher with Freedom’s Promise!
"Without the income opportunity provided by Freedom's Promise I would not be where I am now. I might not even be in Cambodia serving my own people."
