Cambodia is a place of extremes. Poverty versus wealth, innocence versus corruption, sorrow versus hope, past versus future, and coercion versus trust. The lotus symbolizes something beautiful and lovely growing from a place of filth and decay. This is how we see Cambodia – a people blossoming, healing and growing from the horrors of the Khmer Rouge genocide. This is our hope for Cambodians as they learn to value their children and provide them a future free from the hopelessness and despair that comes from human trafficking and child sex slavery.
